Scrap Your Crap Challenge: Chipboard!

It's that time again.... for another fun challenge over at Scrap Your Crap. This month the challenge is to use chipboard in your project.  I had SO much fun with this! Here is the card I made:

I just love how it came out. It was perfect for the occasion: my daughter's best friend's 18th birthday. As a matter of fact, just this afternoon we went over to her house and gave it to her. She is such a sweet girl and my daughter thinks the world of her. It made me so happy that she loved the card and thought it was perfect to give to her BFF :-)

I have to say, I really, really enjoyed making this! The Tim Holtz dress form die is awesome! After cutting it out, I painted the dress form with Jenny Bowlin pink dabber paint and let it dry thoroughly. Then I die cut another dress form out of a piece of patterned paper from the Crafty Secret's Heartwarming Vintage Pastel papers. (These have seriously been my favorite papers for months now.) I also used paper from that collection for the main card layer, as well.

Then I made the skirt. I had some awesome lacy vintage trim in my stash (I think I bought it from Etsy) and wrapped a piece around and glue-dotted in in the back. Then I added some A*Muse flowered trim for the waistband. The necklace is made from an iridescent pearl strand I had in my stash. I just cut a small piece off and wrapped it around and used some adhesive under some of the beads.

The beautiful lace butterfly is from Martha Stewart, and the little "celebrate" sticker embellishment is from K&Company/ Brenda Walton which I have had in my stash for years. I love using stuff I have had for so long! I guess that's why I love Scrap Your Crap so much... I am finally using some of this stuff (or shall I say "crap") up AND having a blast doing it ;-)

Victorian Friendship

Hello and happy Thursday! Today I have a friendship card to share with you that has a real Victorian feel to it. I made this card for ABC Toys & Crafts- and that's where you'll find some of the awesome products I used to make it. I love the patterned paper I used as it reminds me of Victorian wallpaper. And paired with the beautiful die cut frame, I think it looks kind of like an antique silhouette hanging in a parlor in a beautiful old Victorian mansion ;-)

The paper is from the Crafty Secrets "Classics" collection paper pack. I have used it on so many things and never ever tire of it. It's so beautiful!

And this awesome frame is from the Spellbinders Floral Ovals frames die set. Gorgeous, isn't it? I love all the detail and by adding some tiny pearls it looks so elegant. 

I used Stampin' Up!'s "Victoria" lace on top of some lovely old vintage peach colored lace I had in my stash that I got at an antiques show. And the flower is a big Prima flower that looks/ feels like a real dried flower, which had also been hanging around in my stash waiting to be used ;-)

The two little stick pins are a couple that I made and as simple as they are, I think they add just the right  touch to finish things off.

ABC Design Team Challenge: Wedding & Graduation

We've got a new challenge for you over at the ABC DT Challenge Blog! 

This is the time of year for weddings and graduations, so this month we challenge you to make a card or other project choosing either of those occasions as your theme.

I chose wedding as my theme. And since I knew I should have a few wedding cards on hand, I decided to make more than just one. Each is just a little different from the others. 

And with the sentiment I used, the first two I have pictured could actually be used either  as engagement/shower cards or anniversary cards, as well as wedding.

May Flowers

Well I hope it's true that all those April showers we had will indeed bring May flowers. I am so ready for lots of sunshine and blossoms! So today I am sharing a floral card I created using the wonderful Penny Black clear stamp set "Illumination Flowers". 

I started out with a plain white card stock base and ever so lightly dry embossed it with a faint pattern. Then I added a doily. Over that I put some die cut leaves and then used my Spellbinders classic and scalloped ovals dies for my image. Instead of stamping in ink, I decided to color the flower and butterfly stamps with markers. I love the water colored effect that gives. A few little pearls were added as an accent. More Spellbinders dies were used for the sentiment stamp (also from this beautiful set) and my new favorite flowers- Prima's Caboodles- adorn the corners. And, as I so often do, I used lots of  EK Success 3 D dots for "pop"! :-)

 It's time again to share another card I made for ABC Toys & Crafts! This week I have used a super cute Stampavie image. I chose a birthday cake with candles from The Rachelle Anne Miller set called "Cakes Are Yummy".  

 I love these papers, too. And the colors coordinate perfectly with the Prima flowers. And check out how great the metal flower brad (which I found I had in my stash) looks in the flower center! 

 I  watercolored the image using Prisma watercolor pencils, and added some Stickles on the candle flames and the blue dots.

And finally I added a "Happy Birthday" wish in Spanish, as this card will be given to a super sweet lady who has waited on me for years at one of my favorite stores. It's was her birthday a couple of days ago and I will be going there this morning. Hopefully she won't mind it being a tad late ;-)

The Perfect Sentiment: All Occasion Sketch

It's time again for another wonderful challenge from The Perfect Sentiment! 

This week we have a great sketch for you to follow. The sentiment part will be really fun too, because you may choose whatever occasion you like! But as always, your sentiment must be on the front of the card ;-)

I had soooo much fun making this card! For the first time ever, I finally decided to do some real stitching on a card! I hand stitched using twine. Not only did I love doing it, but it really made me want to get back to counted cross stitch- something I have not done for years! 

I also had fun going through all my tons and tons of antique and vintage buttons to find some that would work well. I ended up choosing three really cute old plastic ones with rhinestones. I removed the shanks from them so I could just attach them with glue dots. I love how they look!

Hello and Happy Thursday- already!!! Wow, where is this week going? I can't believe we are getting close to another weekend :-)

Well, today I have a card to share with you stamped with a really fun stamp from the Stampavie line by Sarah Kay called "Josephine Cuddling Her Pet Cat Nikki".

This stamp- along with all of the Stampavie stamps are now 20% off through April 28th at ABC Toys & Crafts!

I loved using this stamp! The image is just darling and it has so much detail. I decided to do a combination of things with it: I both water colored it using watercolor crayons and watercolor pencils, and I also did some paper piecing for her outfit, shoes and hat. The paper is from the K & Company "Bailey" designer Mat Pad.

To achieve the dots on the background layer (also from the same K& Company paper stack) I used the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder. And for my sentiment, I used a Spellbinders ovals die and a Spellbinders scalloped oval die. And a lot of my favorite dimensional 3-D Dotsstickers were used to give it the pop that I love ;-)
